Joslyn Castle & Gardens

A Scottish Baronial mansion built for George and Sarah Joslyn, open for guided tours, with 5.5 acres of gardens and grounds open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Joslyn Castle is a Scottish Baronial mansion in Omaha's Midtown, built for George and Sarah Joslyn, who are described by the castle as Omaha's first millionaires and philanthropists. The home has welcomed visitors since its doors opened in 1903. Today a nonprofit operates it as a historic house museum, with public tours led by docents. The standard public tour begins with a short video overview of about ten minutes and then moves room by room through the main, second and third floors.

The gardens and grounds are open daily from sunrise to sunset unless a private event is underway. The castle also hosts exhibits, including a display on the artist Eugene Kingman and rotating exhibitions. Joslyn Castle is separate from the Joslyn Art Museum, which was founded by Sarah Joslyn in memory of her husband, so be sure to pick the right address when planning your trip. The castle appeals to history buffs, architecture fans and anyone curious about Omaha's early prosperity. It is also a calm outdoor stop for couples and groups. Free on-site parking is available, and an external lift near the upper parking lot provides access past the back steps.
