Standing Bear Lake is a 135-acre reservoir and city park near 132nd and Military streets in northwest Omaha. The surrounding park is a popular place for walking, biking, fishing and picnics, and it gives guests in the western part of the city a quick escape into open space. A trail circles much of the lake, and a floating section was added in recent years so that walkers and cyclists could make a complete loop.
Local news reported in October 2026 that heavy rain and a lake surge twisted part of this floating trail, and that section is closed while the city decides on repairs. Anglers can fish for bluegill, channel catfish, common carp, crappie, freshwater drum, largemouth bass and walleye, with rainbow trout stocked seasonally. A concrete boat ramp is available, and boats are limited to 5 mph with no wake.
The park also has playground areas, open lawns and trees, making it an easy outing for families. Visit Omaha lists both Standing Bear and Zorinsky lakes among the city's free options, with trails, playgrounds and fishing docks. Because of the trail closure, plan on an out-and-back walk on the open portions rather than a full loop. Check City of Omaha Parks and Recreation for updates before you go.
