Benson is the City of Omaha's championship-length 18, set beside Benson Park in the north-central part of the city. It has been open since the mid-1960s and plays as a traditional par 72 stretching past 6,600 yards from the blue tees.
The land rolls more than you might expect, so you get uphill approaches, sidehill lies and greens that reward a good read. Mature trees line many fairways, and the course rating from the back is a real test for a muni.
Like the other city courses, it is busy with locals and leagues, but the pace is usually steady and the price is friendly. There is a putting green and a teaching pro on site, though no full driving range.
It suits travelers who want a true, full-size public course without resort pricing, and it is about 15 minutes from downtown.
