Winchester Bar & Grill

Winchester Bar & Grill has been at 70th and Q Street in south Omaha since the 1970s, according to a 2023 3 News Now report, which described it as a little tucked away across the street from Funplex. The bar calls itself a diner-style spot for burgers, sandwiches and comfort food, and it did well in The Reader's 2021 Readers' Choice poll, winning best bar for cheap drinks, darts, karaoke and sand volleyball.

The property goes beyond the bar room. Winchester runs sand volleyball leagues in spring, summer and fall, with an outdoor bar serving tap and canned beer, shots and mixed drinks. Inside, karaoke and live music are on the schedule Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. Happy hour runs Tuesday through Friday from 2 to 6 p.m., with $1 off beers, cocktails and items from the snacks menu.

The kitchen leans on gravy-heavy comfort food. Hot beef is the signature: roast cooked for 12 hours, per the 2023 report, served over mashed potatoes with gravy. Super Tots come loaded with seasoned beef, black beans, queso, cheddar, guacamole and salsa verde, and smash burgers and the Q Street chicken sandwich are regulars. It suits groups, league players and anyone wanting a cheap, filling meal.
