AppleJack is Nebraska City's fall harvest festival, and USA Today has named it one of the top 10 harvest festivals in the country. Once a single weekend, it now runs over two weekends in September and organizers say it draws more than 100,000 people to a town of under 10,000.
The first weekend is the classic festival: a Saturday afternoon parade on Central Avenue, a carnival, a flea market and a craft and maker market. The second weekend focuses on apples, with a Cider Stroll for adults and a harvest market.
Orchards are the other half of the fun. Arbor Day Farm, Kimmel Orchard, Union Orchard and other farms offer U-pick apples, hayrack rides, cider donuts and wine tastings. Nebraska City is about an hour south of Omaha.
