Nebraska is famously obsessed with volleyball, and the Omaha Supernovas turned that passion into a pro sports success story. The team began play in January 2024 in the Pro Volleyball Federation, now called Major League Volleyball, and won the league's first championship that spring.
The Supernovas play at CHI Health Center, the same downtown arena used for Creighton basketball, and the crowds have been record-setting. The team led pro volleyball in attendance in both 2024 and 2025, averaging more than 10,000 fans per home match in 2025 and topping 13,000 for one match (figures from team and league reports compiled on Wikipedia, not an official league document).
The season runs through the depth of winter into spring, with roughly 13 or 14 home matches. Matches are fast, loud and family friendly, and many of the players are former college stars, including some who played at Nebraska and Creighton.
