American Midwest Ballet, the professional company formerly known as Ballet Nebraska, performs The Nutcracker every holiday season. It is the metro's main professional Nutcracker, with Tchaikovsky's score, the Sugar Plum Fairy, the battle with the Mouse King, and local young dancers joining the company.
The 2026 production opens with performances on Nov. 21 and 22 at the Hoff Family Arts and Culture Center in Council Bluffs, then moves to the Orpheum Theater in downtown Omaha for Dec. 4 to 6. The company has added new costume and scenery touches this season, and it also offers a sensory-friendly performance.
The Orpheum is a gilded 1920s movie palace, which makes it a magical setting for a first ballet.
