Zoolightful turns Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo & Aquarium into a holiday light trail on select evenings from mid-November into January. Presented by Hy-Vee, it has become a family tradition for many Omaha households and a reason for visitors to plan a December trip.

The walk winds past large illuminated displays, including a lantern collection of more than 800 pieces added in 2025, and the 2026 season promises an expanded footprint and new displays. Along the way there are food and drink stops, cookie decorating, a playground and photos with Santa.

Groups can rent a heated private igloo for six, which is a fun way to warm up with hot drinks midway through the evening. Capacity is limited and tickets are timed, so popular December weekends sell out.

Plan on about two hours. Dress warmly; this is an outdoor walk in a Nebraska winter.

Highlights

  • Large-scale lantern and light displays across the zoo
  • Cookie decorating and visits with Santa
  • Private heated igloos for groups of six
  • Food and seasonal drinks along the path
  • Special Monday and Tuesday openings the weeks before Christmas
