Bent Tree sits in the rolling hills east of Council Bluffs, about 20 minutes from downtown Omaha, and it is one of the most complete public tests in the metro. Architect Jeffrey Brauer laid out the 225-acre course with the prairie wind in mind, and you will feel it on almost every hole.
From the tips it stretches past 7,000 yards at par 72, but five sets of tees make it fair for every level. Bentgrass fairways give crisp lies, and bunkers are a constant theme, from the six that guard the fourth fairway to the massive trap splitting the fairway on the par-5 15th. The 9th, a long par 5, is the signature hole, and the 18th finishes with a par 3 that carries water to a shallow green.
Holes are named after prairie grasses and wildflowers, which suits the open, natural setting. The Toptracer-equipped Blast Pad range has heated indoor and outdoor bays you can rent by the hour, so it is a great spot for a mixed group where not everyone wants to play 18. Golfweek has named it a best public course winner.
