Iron Horse sits between Ashland and Mahoney State Park, about halfway between Omaha and Lincoln. The course was routed around an old rock quarry, so expect rock outcrops, elevation changes and some holes that play over or along the quarry edges.
It is not long at about 6,500 yards from the tips, but the slope tops out at 135, which tells you accuracy matters far more than distance. Missed fairways can mean trouble.
Golf Digest named it one of America's best new courses in 2002, and it remains a favorite day trip for Omaha golfers. Leagues run on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
It is a good pairing with Quarry Oaks a few miles away, or a fun stop on the way to Lincoln or Mahoney State Park.
