Quarry Oaks is the public course serious golfers drive out of Omaha for. It sits on the bluffs at the western edge of the Platte River valley, on land that was once a limestone quarry, and the elevation changes, rock walls and oak woods make it feel nothing like a city course.
From the back it stretches past 7,200 yards with a slope of 144, so it is a real challenge. Forward tees bring it down to about 4,700 yards, and the course is still fun from there, but expect forced carries and some steep lies.
The club has recently put money into new irrigation, greens, tees, fairways and bunkers, plus a renovated clubhouse with a restaurant, the 47B Bar & Patio and fire pits.
Plan on about 35 to 40 minutes from downtown Omaha, and pair it with Iron Horse next door or a stop at Mahoney State Park for a full golf day.
