Dante is a West Omaha restaurant at the Shops of Legacy, 16901 Wright Plaza, led by Omaha native Nick Strawhecker. The kitchen focuses on seasonal ingredients and Italian cooking, with pizza in the Neapolitan style, and the dining room is labeled fine dining on its website. The site does not name the owners.
Pizza is stretched by hand and baked in a wood-fired oven, and the pastas are made in house. The restaurant also runs a monthly Italian wine club and a mobile wood-fired pizza oven for catering. A half-price happy hour runs until 5 pm, and the dining room is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.
Recent takeout menus show the range: wood-roasted meatballs on polenta, ricotta with honeycomb and warm bread, Brussels sprouts with guanciale, and pastas such as carbonara, bolognese and squid ink taglierini with crab. Pizzas run from a classic Margherita to a Diavolo and a vegetarian Formaggi Supreme. Dessert includes butterscotch budino and gelato.
Dante is a strong choice for a special dinner or a pizza night with friends. Pizza Today named it Independent Pizzeria of the Year in 2019, according to the badge on the site. Reservations are made through Toast Tables, and parties of nine or more should phone the restaurant instead. A waitlist is also offered online when tables are full.
