Lewis & Clark Landing is the riverside end of The RiverFront, the 72-acre network of three downtown parks. The RiverFront reports that it opened with Heartland of America Park on August 18, 2023. Its name nods to the expedition that passed along this stretch of the Missouri River in the early 1800s.
The Landing shares its address with the Kiewit Luminarium, and the two make an easy pairing: spend time inside the science center, then step outdoors to enjoy the open space along the river. It is a spacious, airy place compared with the denser downtown streets. The setting is the draw. Here the city meets the Missouri, with broad green areas, walking paths and views toward the water. It is a pleasant place to stretch your legs after a morning at a museum, or to relax with children who need room to move.
From the Landing, the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge is a short walk to the north, which makes it a practical starting point for a stroll over the river into Iowa. Heading back south brings you to Heartland of America Park, Gene Leahy Mall and the Old Market. There is no charge to visit, and the park is part of The RiverFront's event calendar, so seasonal programming may be scheduled during your stay. As with the other RiverFront parks, plan around the weather and bring layers or sun protection as the season requires.
