Kiewit Luminarium is Omaha's interactive science center, set on the riverfront at Lewis & Clark Landing. The museum reports that it opened in April 2023. It is built around learning by doing, so expect to push, build, test and experiment rather than just read placards. Beyond its permanent exhibits, the Luminarium runs a changing calendar. At the time of writing, Sean Kenney's Brick Masters Studio, an interactive exhibit blending creativity and science, is scheduled through January 18. The museum also lists programs such as a BioDiscovery Lab, field trips and Holland Talks, plus Night Light evenings for adults 21 and older.
The location adds to the visit. Step outside and you are on the grounds of The RiverFront, with river views, open green space and walking paths. Many families split their day between exhibits inside and a stroll or play break outdoors, then continue to the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
The Luminarium is best for children and curious adults, and it is a strong rainy-day choice. Because exhibits are interactive, visits tend to run longer than a typical walk-through museum. Check the event calendar for special weekends, such as seasonal science events. Admission varies by age and category, and there is a reduced-price Wednesday evening window. Members and several community groups get free or discounted entry, as detailed on the museum's ticket page.
