"Stile di Famiglia," Italian for "family style," is a giant sculpture of a fork stuck into a heap of spaghetti, standing about 15 feet tall at 1115 South 7th Street in Omaha's Little Italy. Little Italy of Omaha commissioned artist Jake Balcom to make it, drawing on the neighborhood's restaurants and its sense of community around the dinner table. Visit Nebraska lists it among the area's stops and calls it the world's largest fork with pasta.
The sculpture sits in front of a private home on a quiet residential street on the east side of Little Italy, a few blocks from the bakeries and restaurants of Pacific and 10th streets. It is always visible from the sidewalk and there is no charge to see it, but it's on private property, so stay on the public side and be considerate of the neighbors when taking pictures.
This is a short stop rather than an outing in itself. Most people spend a few minutes snapping photos, then continue to Orsi's Italian Bakery & Pizzeria on Pacific Street, St. Frances Cabrini Church on 10th Street, or Dahlman Park nearby. It's a fun detour for kids and for anyone collecting quirky roadside art on a road trip.
