The Omaha Children's Museum is built for young kids, with a mix of play areas designed to teach through hands-on activity. The museum says it has been operating for more than 40 years, and it sits just west of downtown, close to the Old Market and Midtown. Permanent exhibits include the Charlie Campbell Science and Technology Center, Art Smart Center, Imagination Playground, Zooland, Tinker Factory, Fantastic Future Me, Sandy's Splish-Splash Garden and the S.T.E.A.M. Cave. The Streck Science Showplace and Bay Family Carousel add live demonstrations and a ride.
Each space targets a different style of play, so kids can build, paint, pretend or experiment. Special exhibits rotate in and out, and the museum lists them on its website, so look for what is on during your stay to add a fresh element for repeat visitors.
It is especially well suited to families with toddlers through elementary-age children, and it works as a strong rainy-day or cold-weather outing. Adults are welcome to join in, and the museum is also a good place to burn energy before or after a long day exploring. Children under 24 months and members are admitted free. Check the Plan Your Visit page for parking details and the museum map before you go.
