Anime NebrasKon started in 2004 as a small fundraiser run by a University of Nebraska-Lincoln anime club, with about 300 people. It has grown into one of the Midwest's larger fan conventions, reporting nearly 7,900 attendees, 175 staff and 135 vendors in 2022.
Since 2021 it has been held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, just across the Missouri River from downtown Omaha. Expect three days of cosplay, panels, voice actor and artist guests, video and tabletop gaming, workshops, a big vendor hall and artist alley, and evening dances and concerts.
The convention is run by volunteers, and it has supported charities over the years. It draws fans from across Nebraska, Iowa and neighboring states, so nearby hotels fill up.
