Every October the Durham Museum adds a playful spooky streak to its historic Union Station home. The star is the Haunted Train, a walk-through of the museum's vintage rail cars dressed up for Halloween, which runs through the end of the month.
Around it the museum schedules a string of themed events. In 2026 those included a GREAT HALL-oween Haunt, a Durham After Dark night for grown-ups, Spooky Tales for Tots and the Hallo-weekend, when kids 12 and under get in free and can enjoy the Haunted Train, a Cobweb Caboose, Halloween games and dancing zombies.
It is aimed at families with younger kids who want Halloween atmosphere without real scares, and it fits easily into a day downtown.
