O'Leaver's Pub

A small Saddle Creek Road bar in midtown that went from a hole-in-the-wall to one of Omaha's best-known indie-rock rooms, owned since 2012 by members of the band Cursive. Bands play in a corner with no stage, there is a beer garden out back, and five sand volleyball courts run leagues.

O'Leaver's Pub is on South Saddle Creek Road in midtown Omaha. The Reader described it as a Nascar-loving hole-in-the-wall before it began booking bands in September 2002, and it became a launching pad for local indie acts like Cursive and Little Brazil. In December 2012, Cursive members Matt Maginn, Ted Stevens and Tim Kasher, along with Chris Machmuller, bought the bar.

There is no proper stage: bands set up in a corner, so the crowd stands right next to the players. The bar has recorded shows in a basement studio for its Live at O'Leaver's series, and a beer garden behind the building, with benches, a pergola and its own bar, opened in 2015.

Outside, O'Leaver's runs sand volleyball leagues on five courts, with spring and fall sign-ups on its volleyball site. It has also placed in The Reader's readers' polls for cheap drinks, bar patio and sand volleyball.

Come for a cheap beer and a loud local band, or stop by on a summer evening to watch league games from the patio. Check the bar's social page for the show calendar and cover, which The Reader reported was typically about $5 in 2015 (older figure; likely higher now).
