Steakhouse$$$Aksarben & Central Omaha

Gorat's

Omaha steakhouse on Center Street, in business for more than 80 years and known as a favorite of Warren Buffett. The menu pairs steaks with Italian dishes and seafood, and live music is offered some evenings. Closed Mondays.

Gorat's has been serving Omaha since 1944, according to its own website, and it sits on Center Street. It is a classic steakhouse in the old-fashioned sense: a long menu of beef cuts, a section of Italian-American pasta and parmesan dishes, and a seafood list that runs from salmon and walleye to lobster tails. The site does not name the current owners, so the story here is the longevity of the room itself.

The dining room is meant to feel comfortable rather than formal. The restaurant says there is no formal dress code, and most guests show up in business casual or smart casual. Live music and weekly entertainment are part of the calendar, with a dedicated events page on the site, and the restaurant also hosts private events and sells gift cards and a rewards program for repeat visitors.

Beef is the center of the menu. Filets, New York strips, whiskey-marinated ribeyes and a 22-ounce T-bone sit alongside a slow-cooked prime rib seasoned with thirteen herbs and spices, with A5 Wagyu sold by the ounce for special occasions. Starters lean indulgent, including billionaire deviled eggs, lobster bites and wagyu crostini, and sides range from a loaded baked potato to truffle lobster mac and cheese.

Gorat's suits celebration dinners, visiting family and anyone who wants a traditional Omaha steak night with a few Italian comfort dishes on the side. It is open for lunch Tuesday through Sunday and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, and closed Mondays. Use the online reservation page to book a table. Bringing your own bottle is possible for a $25 corkage fee.
