The Cottonwood Room

A cocktail lounge in the basement of the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel, built around a full-size cottonwood tree. The hotel's renovation draws on a Jazz Age theme, making it a polished spot for a drink in Blackstone.

The Cottonwood Room is the cocktail bar in the lower level of the Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel at 36th and Farnam. The hotel is a roughly $75 million reinvention of the 1915 Blackstone Hotel, an Omaha Landmark since 1983 and on the National Register of Historic Places since 1985. The bar was conceived as a contemporary take on the speakeasy that originally sat in the Blackstone.

The room is built around a circular bar with a decorative cottonwood tree rising from its center, a nod to the hotel's name. The hotel describes the experience as highly curated mixology in an intimate, welcoming space with an elevated speakeasy feel.

The bar opens in the late afternoon and runs until midnight, which makes it a natural place to begin or end an evening in Blackstone. It works well for a date, a small group, or a nightcap if you are staying nearby, and it is a good counterpart to the neighborhood's more casual pubs and breweries.
