801 Chophouse
A steakhouse in downtown Omaha serving USDA Prime beef, part of a small multi-city chain. Meat is handled in-house, a daily fresh sheet supplements the standing menu, and desserts are made on site. A fit for celebration dinners a short walk from the Old Market.
801 Chophouse is the Omaha branch of a Midwestern steakhouse group based in Des Moines, with other locations in cities such as Kansas City, Denver, Minneapolis and St. Louis. The Omaha restaurant sits at 1403 Farnam Street in the Paxton building and, according to the company, has served USDA Prime cuts since 1993 under what it calls its GreenCoat hospitality.
Press coverage describes a dim, gold-toned dining room with candlelit tables, formal service and a long-tenured staff. A large golden bull sculpture is a signature of the chain, and the Omaha room is notable for a small model train that circles above the bar, with each car representing a local business.
The kitchen runs an in-house meat program, which includes dry-aging, and the menu is supplemented by a daily fresh sheet. Reporters have singled out the bone-in filet and ribeye, a shrimp cocktail, a one-pound loaded baked potato, mac and cheese, and a chocolate soufflé that is made to order and takes about 45 minutes.
Cocktails include the house 801 Manhattan. This is a celebration-dinner choice a few blocks from the Old Market, best for special occasions and business dinners. Complimentary valet is offered Tuesday through Saturday, and happy hour runs weekdays from 4 to 6 pm. Reserve ahead, and order the soufflé early in the meal.
