Hiro 88 West Maple
The West Maple location of a five-restaurant Omaha-Lincoln group serving izakaya-style sharing plates and a long list of makimono rolls. Reservations can be made by phone or online.
HIRO 88 is an upscale Pan-Asian restaurant group. Chef and restaurateur Milton Yin brought the concept to Omaha in 2003, and it now runs five locations across Omaha and Lincoln. This West Maple restaurant at 3655 N 129th Street is one of them. Each location was designed with its own atmosphere, drawing on the surrounding neighborhood.
The menu is an Asian fusion mix of dishes from China, Japan and Korea, each with what the company calls a HIRO twist, with an izakaya-style approach of sharing plates. The sushi side includes sashimi, nigiri and more than 40 makimono rolls, and the bar carries one of the larger sake selections in the city, plus wine, cocktails and beer.
Starters and small plates include gyoza, charred shishito peppers, crab rangoon and Asian short ribs, while the kitchen side offers sesame chicken, Korean bulgogi, Mongolian beef, miso sea bass and cauliflower in Yin's sauce. Rolls range from the signature Hiro 88 roll to a Tsunami roll and a naked California roll wrapped in cucumber.
Hiro 88 is ideal for groups who want to share plates, for sushi fans and for happy hour: Monday through Saturday from 3 to 6 pm, plus after 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, dine-in only. Reservations can be made through the website, and online ordering covers pickup, delivery and catering.
