The Homy Inn

A family-run dive bar open since 1956 and still owned by the same family, packed with vintage memorabilia. It pours around 20 rotating local beers, champagne on tap and about 30 whiskeys. Local coverage describes it as welcoming and affordable.

The Homy Inn has been at 1510 N Saddle Creek Road since 1956, when Maynard Finkle and Leo Bianchi opened it. The founders originally wanted the name Homey Inn but dropped the e to fit the existing sign. Terry Finkle bought the bar from his father in 1985. The bar later removed its grill to make room for seating and storage.

The bar's own site calls the room intimate and decorates it with vintage tap handles, I Like Ike buttons and baseball cards. Local history coverage adds old newspapers, beer cans and Beatles and Elvis memorabilia, which gives the walls a museum-like feel for a neighborhood dive. Its signature is champagne on tap, poured by the flute in four versions: sweet, dry, strawberry and peach.

The bar also serves jello shots daily, has added sangria on tap, and runs weekly specials such as discounted High Life on Sundays and half-price champagne on Mondays. Esquire named it one of the Top 50 Bars in the United States in 2006. It is open seven days a week, and the site says Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest, so go earlier in the week if you want a quieter seat.
