Ooh De Lally
A small second-floor dining room in Dundee with big windows over Underwood Avenue, in the space once held by Mark's Bistro. The menu is elevated comfort food, including a mac and cheese based on the old Mark's recipe, and the same building houses a bar called The Fox Den.
Ooh De Lally is a non-profit restaurant in historic Dundee whose stated mission is to train formerly incarcerated people in the culinary trade. It works with Metropolitan Community College's 180 Re-entry Assistance Program, and the website features a Mission Moment story about one of its trainees. Eating here supports that work directly.
The dining room sits upstairs on Underwood Avenue, and a bar called The Fox Den operates in the same building. The Fox Den keeps its own hours, opening in the late afternoon Tuesday through Saturday. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner most days, with a Sunday brunch buffet that begins at 10 am.
The menu leans elevated comfort food. Starters include burrata, Dundee Dip and Brussels sprouts, followed by an ODL burger made with wagyu, a lobster roll, short rib grilled cheese and several mac and cheeses, including a signature version, a lobster version and a vegan one. Entrees range from salmon and scallops to braised short rib and lasagna. It works for a relaxed lunch, a dinner out in Dundee, or weekend brunch. Many dishes are marked gluten friendly, and a vegan mac and cheese is on the menu. Tables can be booked online through Toast, which helps on busier evenings.
