A neighborhood brewery in a converted three-story former grocery near Field Club and Hanscom Park, with the brewing done in the basement. The main-floor taproom is small and friendly, pairing house beers with pizza, snacks and a few beer cocktails. Good for a relaxed pint away from the downtown crowds.

Vis Major Brewing Company calls itself South Omaha's neighborhood brewery and taproom, brewing rotating beers on site at 3501 Center St. The building is a converted three-story former grocery near Field Club and Hanscom Park, and the brewing happens in the basement. The brewery says it focuses on the art and heritage of brewing, with inventive takes on classic styles.

The taproom on the main floor is small and friendly. The beer list has included hazy IPAs, fruited sours and dark ales, with named pours such as Sheely amber bock, Summer Seeds watermelon gose and Wild Phoenix cherry brettanomyces sour. Seasonal slushy cocktails, beer cocktails and a classic old fashioned are on the cocktail side.

Food is a real part of the visit: thin-crust pizzas with names like The Goonie! and The Pesto's Yet to Come!, hearty sandwiches, street nachos, truffle popcorn and shareable appetizers. Gluten-free options, kombucha and mocktails are available. It is a relaxed choice for a pint and pizza away from the downtown crowds.
