Alderman's Bar

A Leavenworth Street tavern near 32nd Street that has been pouring since 1937. Expect old-school beers like Hamm's, Grain Belt and Old Style, karaoke, and a regular crowd. It is best known as one of Omaha's biggest St. Patrick's Day parties, when it opens early and adds outdoor space.

Alderman's Bar sits on Leavenworth Street near 32nd Street, just south of Midtown, and dates to 1937. Owner Mark McClellan has run it for more than 20 years, according to a March 2026 WOWT report. It is a classic neighborhood tavern rather than a polished cocktail spot, and it has placed in The Reader's readers' polls for cheap drinks, karaoke, happy hour and best neighborhood tavern.

The bar's big day is St. Patrick's Day. The room is hand-decorated in green over several weeks, the bar takes out a special license, puts up a fence for outdoor space and brings in extra staff and security. In 2026 it planned to open at 6 a.m. for the holiday, and the owner calls it the biggest day of the bar's year.

Drinks lean simple: McClellan points to older-style beers such as Grain Belt, Hamm's and Old Style. Come on an ordinary night for a cheap beer and karaoke with locals, or plan around St. Patrick's Day if you want the full crowd and party.
