Café Postale

A daytime café inside the old Rail & Commerce post office building at the north end of Little Italy, from chef Nathan Newhouse. The seasonal menu leans local and comes dine-in or grab-and-go. Details from the postal days remain, including a former vault door and a mail chute you walk through to reach the restrooms, and there's a sunken patio.

Café Postale is a daytime café in the historic Rail & Commerce Building at 950 South 10th Street, a former post office at the north end of Little Italy. It opened in 2021 as a partnership between chef Nathan Newhouse, who spent nearly two decades running the catering company Attitude on Food, and the Commerce Village coworking space upstairs.

The building's postal past is still on display. Historic photos line the walls, the old supervisors' observation galleries remain overhead, a former vault door stands in the middle of the café, and you reach the restrooms through what was once a giant mail chute. There's seating inside and on a sunken patio when the weather cooperates.

The food is fresh and seasonal, built on local ingredients and rotated through the year, with plates to eat in and grab-and-go items for people on the move. The café also doubles as an event venue, and its connected lower terrace is used for weddings and private gatherings, while members of the coworking space upstairs can use the terrace during office hours.

It works well for a weekday breakfast or lunch, a coffee-and-laptop session or a casual meal before exploring Little Italy, with the Old Market a short walk north. Because the space also hosts private events and the last published hours we found are from 2021, confirm it's open before you go.
