Hiro 88 (Old Market)

A pan-Asian restaurant in the Old Market with sushi, izakaya-style small plates and wok and noodle dishes. One of five Omaha-Lincoln locations; lunch and dinner are served daily, with a happy hour menu.

Hiro 88 is an upscale pan-Asian restaurant group. Chef and restaurateur Milton Yin brought the concept to Omaha in 2003, and the 88 Restaurant Group now runs five Hiro 88 locations in Omaha and Lincoln. The Old Market restaurant is at 1308 Jackson Street. The company says each location takes cues from its neighborhood.

The menu blends dishes from China, Japan and Korea with what it calls a Hiro twist, and the restaurants also pour a large sake selection, wines, cocktails and beers. The dinner and lunch menus include classics such as Mongolian beef, sesame chicken, teriyaki salmon and shrimp tempura, plus vegetable and tofu dishes.

The sushi menu runs to more than 40 rolls, including the Black Pearl, Hiro 88 and Volcano rolls, with sashimi, nigiri and izakaya-style small plates like gyoza, pork buns and short ribs. Lunch and dinner are served daily, and there is a happy hour on weekday afternoons. Online ordering, pickup and delivery are available, so it works for groups with mixed tastes. The menu does not label vegetarian or gluten-free dishes, so ask about soy sauce and cross-contact.
